It’s a PC app where we can manage the NVR, and like with the mobile app, has better English and a more user-friendly interface. Also, at this point we can connect to Reolink PC client.

  • If I scan the code with the Reolink app, it adds the NVR to my mobile device.
  • If you do scan the code, here is what happens, it just references the Unit ID.
  • Also, some verbiage about the purpose of the QR code would be beneficial here. I’m surprised to see the QR code here at this point in the setup process and not at the end once the NVR is setup and ready to use. The QR code is used to connect your PC or mobile device to the NVR, which we’ll cover in another video.
  • Lastly the Unit ID, which is pre-programmed and cannot be updated.
  • We’ll see this later when adding the device to the mobile app. To use uppercase, click the case toggle here to the right of the field. I’ll stick with24-hour and again, this will impact the time for the cameras’ on-screen time display.
  • I’m ok with the “Menu Date Format” here and this is also referring to the format in the upper corner of the video feed.
  • Then we have time zone which is straight forward.
  • Too bad the NVR doesn’t auto-detect the resolution. To fix this, I had to reconnect the 4k monitor, then lower this resolution setting on the NVR then reconnect this monitor.

For example, I was using a 4k monitor a few days ago and I set the resolution here to 4k, but now on my 1080p monitor I see this message. When setting this value, you can set a lower value than what your monitor supports but, keep in mind, if you set a higher value then you screen can support, no image will be displayed. This is the resolution of the attached monitor and nothing to do with the cameras’ resolution. On the “General configuration” page, we have the connected screen resolution. These options are available in the main menu anyways. I will leave that off and if I need to revisit it, there is a wizard button on the main menu bar. This will show the wizard on boot up every time I start the NVR. At the bottom of this dialog we have “Display wizard when booting up”.

With the Enable Password checkbox checked, this mean you will need to enter the password when accessing the NVR system directly. It’s disabled because this is the admin account needs to have the highest level of control and its setup first. Level is the level of access this account should have. That’s an awesome sign and even better that they were automatically detected and added. You can see that all 4 of the connected cameras were just automatically recognized and activated by the NVR with no input for me.Also, “Enter” should read as “Ok” as it simply closes the keyboard and doesn’t actually submit the form, like an “Enter” key would. With that said, there will be a learning curve to figure out these oddities of the user interface. Also, to make capital letters, or numbers, click the little “ab” icon in the text box.

Too bad you couldn’t connect a keyboard here for the setup process. I need to create a password of at least 6 characters. Now, this is for the user name “admin”.First off, I am asked to select a language. We’ll revisit those complex settings in a future video from the NVR’s main menu. We’re going to skip over those unnecessary sections as this video is about getting the basics functional, before proceeding to the outdoor installation. They take us down a pretty long complicated and technical path which is not required for an initial setup, without including help text or guidance along the way, as we would expect to see from a help assistant tool. Reolink goes a little overboard with the wizard for an initial setup. On first start up, the NVR will bring us into a setup wizard, which is exactly what we want, guidance or help getting the system functional. While the device is booting up, I want to set some expectations.
